Russian Couple Abducted in Argentina Amid Surge in Crypto Kidnappings
A Russian couple operating a cryptocurrency business was abducted in Buenos Aires’ Palermo district, marking another incident in a growing trend of crypto-related kidnappings. The victims were lured to an apartment by two Chechen individuals under the pretense of a dinner invitation. Around 11 p.m., the woman managed to call for help from a balcony, prompting nearby restaurant staff to alert authorities. Police found both victims bound inside the apartment.
The attackers fled to the United Arab Emirates shortly after the incident, with Interpol issuing a Red Notice for their capture. A ransom of $43,000 was paid in cryptocurrency by another Russian national residing in Partido de la Costa, following direct negotiations with the kidnappers. The case is now under investigation by Argentine federal authorities.
